Trimbach Eaux de Vie

Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting the history, exceptional terroirs and fine wines of Alsace. Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. The Eau-de-Vie (fruit brandy) tradition in Alsace started around the end of the 17th century. In addition to growing wine grapes, Alsace, has always produced a myriad of fruits include Mirabelles (Yellow Plum), Kirsch (Black Cherry), Poire (William Pear), Framboise (Raspberry), among others. Orchards dotted the landscape at that time, sometimes appearing even in the middle of the vineyards. The Trimbachs began selling them just after WWII. Today, the Trimbachs, along with many other producers, are replanting fruit trees in the vineyards in other to improve bio-diversity. Traditionally, Eaux-de-Vie (literally translated as “water of life”) were always drunk with coffee in the morning or as digestif. They are enjoyed today on their own, in cocktails, as well as in pastry and traditional recipes. As with tradition, oak barriques are not used so as not to mask the finesse of the fruit; therefore, all of them are clear and express the purity of the fruit.

The Trimbach liqueurs also express the quintessential flavors of their respective fruit. As liqueurs, the alcohol level is reduced to the mid-twenty percentage range and the sugar level is boosted so to ensure a pleasureful experience as a chilled digestive, cocktail ingredient, or even a dessert complement with ice-cream or fruit salads.

About

about Trimbach Eaux de Vie

History

The Trimbach’s have a purist vision. Across 13 generations, the Family has produced wines that are structured, long-lived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. Bottles remain in the cellar for several years before reaching the marketplace, ensuring the wines are both ready to drink upon release but also hold great ageing potential. For three centuries, the Trimbach Family has been promoting Alsace—its History, its exceptional terroirs and fine wines. Maison Trimbach is still located in Ribeauvillé and still owned by the two grandsons of Frédéric Théodore–Bernard and Hubert. Trimbach wine acquired true international acclaim in 1898 when Frédéric Emile Trimbach received the highest distinction at the International Wine Fair in Brussels.

Terroir

Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection, which preserves the plain from the rain. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk”.
