Philip Mazzei (1730-1816) was a contemporary of Thomas Jefferson and the two men reportedly exchanged grape-growing know-how and experiences. The 2013 Philip is dedicated to this family ancestor and represents a pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is dark and penetrating with evident oak notes, spice tobacco and dark chocolate. It shows dark consistency and rich concentration. – M.L.
