Zweigelt Reserve BURG 2015 90 WA Aug17

From 18-year-old vines on clay, marl and sandstone soils, the 2015 Zweigelt Reserve Burggarten is a noble selection of the best late picked grapes. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for roughly 18 months in barriques (70% new), the 2015 has a very dark, almost black-ruby color and opens with an intense, dense and aromatic bouquet of ripe, concentrated dark fruits, cedar wood, toast and spicy-peppery aromas. Full-bodied, round and elegant on the palate, this is a generous, lush, charming but also pure, fresh Zweigelt with firm tannins and a powerful, aromatic finish. Still pretty young, this Burggarten should be cellared for four or five years although it will still be fine in 12. – S.R.
