In the early 2000’s, the French seen as arrogant, were less popular abroad. The French products, especially wines were loosing market share in the English speaking countries. In this unfavorable economic environment, an idea will sprout in Jean-Claude Mas’ mind.
In 2005, this challenge oriented man developed the wine brand who mocks the French self-confidence. A nice Frog, a bit dandy, is introduced on wine labels.
Arrogant Frog was born in the Hérault Valley in Languedoc in the south of France, near the Mediterranean sea, close to the small town of Pézenas which inspired the famous playwright Molière, and not far from such magnificent historic sites as the Canal du Midi.
Arrogant Frog vineyards have been planted with Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carigan and Cinsault grape varieties for red and rosé wines, and Viognier, Marsanne, Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay for whites.
The vines are on gravely, clay limestone hills of the Hérault Valley and on the fossil bearing limestone hills overlooking the Thau Lake.
Each of our wines has its own personality, bringing out the best of its « Terroir », New World Style.
As the fourth generation wine grower, Jean-Claude Mas was born in a total wine growing environment in the Languedoc in the town of Pézenas.
Jean-Claude Mas is often described as one of the pioneers of the « new Languedoc » or the « new age » of wine in France, one of those who work to restore the status of the region where wine culture is older than 2000 years.
