Soc Lafleur Grand Village Rouge 2019 90 DEC May20

Pretty serious dark fruit character with concentration and veins of minerality that reflect the limestone soils of an estate that is close to the Fronsac borders. Clearly a wine that has character and impact, more influence from the Cabernet Franc than in 2018, giving floral, earthy, spicy notes. A lovely mouthwatering finish, and it’s one to look out for in the (relative) value wines of the year. An estate that has benefited from the 2017 frosts, because 2ha of the less qualitative sections were scrubbed up and are now lying fallow. Some of the land will be replanted with white grapes, and others won’t be replanted with vines at all. Drinking Window 2022 – 2036. – J.A.
